Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete on Saturday was awarded an honorary Diploma in TV Journalism and Communication at Marwah Studios in Film City Noida, the Asian Academy of Film & TV announced.

Ximena is near the end of a 10-day trip to India, where she is participating in a variety of events to promote the Girl Child Project and AIDS awareness, as well as visiting hospitals.

The Girl Child Project is a program of the Florence Nightengale International Foundation, which “supports the primary and secondary schooling of girls under the age of 18 in developing countries whose nurse parent or parents have died.”

Other goals of the project include:
* “building sound public policy for the healthy development of girls in particular because the benefits extend not just to individuals and families but to entire communities” and
* “seeks to mobilise nurses, the largest group of health care providers in most nations, for the healthy development of girls aged 10 to 14 who live in large cities.”

Ximena, 22, “received a scholastic award for obtaining high honors and exemplifying outstanding behavior” according to her official biography on the Miss Universe site. “She went on to study Nutrition at Univa in Guadalajara, and plans to complete her degree after her reign.”
